Trichology is the para-medical science of the hair, hair loss and associated scalp problems. It encompasses the study of the diseases of the human hair and scalp, as well as the assessment of the cause(s) and treatment of these disorders. The word “trichology” comes from the Greek word, ‘Trikhos’, meaning ‘hair’, and was first conceived as a specialty branch of study in Britain in the late 19th century. It then became a specific para-medical discipline in 1902. Today, trichology is perceived as the “bridge between cosmetology and dermatology.”

Welcome to another Trichology update. I hope you are safe and well.

During the Covid 19 pandemic,  people are becoming more aware of the need to pay close attention to their personal care routines and wellness in general.

You can expect patients and customers to scrutinize product ingredients and clinical procedures and to expect well-informed professional support when it comes to the health of their hair and scalp.

In this new environment, Trichology has a vital role to play. Trichology is the bridge between cosmetology and dermatology, and it has never been more important.

If you have been considering training and certification in Trichology, now is the time to act. The World Trichology Society (WTS) has courses designed for all levels and types of professional. We have introductory courses, such as our Associate Trichologist Diploma; undergraduate courses, such as our Trichology Certification; and Advanced courses, specifically for Certified Trichologists.  All can be completed online without missing a day’s work.  To find out more, visit

Trichology Society and Hair Authority

The World Trichology Society (“Trichology Society”) and The International Hair Authority (“Hair Authority”) are professional organizations founded over 20 years ago to help men and women seeking help for thinning or damaged hair. The Trichology Society provides advanced and intermediate educational courses for hairloss professionals. The Hair Authority delivers serious information about personal care products and therapies and publishes an online Directory of accredited professionals.

Many trichologists are also seeking marketing support to promote their advanced training. In order to provide this assistance without compromising the integrity of the Trichology Society, the Society has partnered with Hair Authority to create a separate organization, The World Trichology Authority. The Trichology Society and Trichology Authority will be distinct and separate, one devoted exclusively to education the other to support services

Our Mission

To promote leadership in trichology and excellence in client/patient care through education and advocacy.
