Why Genetically Engineered Foods May Cause Hair Loss

Genetically Engineered Food is food that has been methodically altered or modified by scientists; therefore, this food is no longer natural. GMO foods allow foreign genes, bacterial and viral vectors , viral promoters, and antibiotic marker systems to be engineered into food. A significant percentage of processed foods purchased today contain some genetically engineered (GE) food products. Consumers have no way of knowing what foods are genetically engineered because the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) does not require labeling these products.

The GMO process combines plants, animals, viruses and bacterium genes – that do not naturally occur together in nature – to better a species.

Can GMO Foods Impact the Health of Hair?

What we eat will undoubtedly impact our health and our hair. A study diet of processed foods, fast foods, and lack of nutrients will reflect the hair quality.

Genetically modified seeds were initially introduced to the market to reduce insect damage to crops. The biggest problems with genetically engineered seeds are produced with herbicides and insecticides that are toxic and, Overtime diminishes a person’s health.

Research shows that GMO foods are devoid of the proper nutrients the body needs to promote healthy hair and good health.

Sugar (artificial sweeteners and high fructose are often hidden in many of our favorite foods. Millions of men, women and children have a steady diet of processed foods, fast foods, and cereals, all of which have food additives and preservatives made of chemicals. Many people have a difficult time digesting these foods.

Our bodies require real food, fruits, vegetables and natural nutrients to give the cells what is needed to support healthy hair; otherwise, the hair will show signs of hair thinning or sudden hair loss.

Risks Associated with GMOs

The risks and disadvantages associated with GMOs are extensive both for human health and for agriculture.

Effects on Overall Health

There are many health conditions that are being reported because of GMOs, including:

When the immune system has been weakening or compromised, the body cannot absorb the nutrient necessary to enter into the cells to feed the organs that keep you alive and well.

How to Protect Yourself

Purchase USDA Organic Foods when possible

Clean all fruits and vegetables with vinegar and aluminum-free baking soda

Read labels: If you cannot pronounce the words, chances are the foods are not healthy

Limit the amount sugar intake

As hair business professionals to help our clients when we see hair loss signs, we must understand the relationship between the foods we eat and how it impacts our body and hair.

United States

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration currently requires labeling of GE foods if the food has a significantly different nutritional property; if a new food includes an allergen that consumers would not expect to be present or if a food contains a toxicant beyond acceptable limits.

Mandatory labeling of genetically engineered (GE) foods in the United States has been proposed, but not enacted at the national, state and local levels.

HAIR LOSS IN TEENAGERS AND HOW TO DEAL WITH THIS

In this case we are talking about hereditary hair loss in teenagers before the age of 30. What advice should you give as a hairdresser? A lotion without proven effect? You have a little more to offer, right? Please note that we are talking about hereditary hair loss here. There are also hair diseases that can cause partial or total hair loss, but they belong in the dermatologist’s home and can sometimes be cured.

Who does that happen to?

Usually, beginning teens do not suffer from it, but as soon as they go to post-primary school to further education, the problems can begin. Adolescent-onset AGA (hereditary hair loss) is a special subtype of early-onset AGA that requires special attention, especially if it starts before the age of 18. Fortunately, it does not occur frequently, but it is estimated that it does occur in about 2% of young adults, and then mostly boys. Most of the signs can be seen between the ages of 13 and 15.

How to discover

Before you discover hair loss, it has been going on for a while. You don’t notice it at first because you lose hair daily due to the natural hair loss phases that everyone goes through.

  • The growth phase (anagen phase)

At this stage I can destroy the hair. During this phase the hair appears above the skin surface for the first time. A hair grows +/- 1cm per month and a little faster in the summer, during sleep and between the 16th and 24th year of life. Depending on the area to be depilated, this phase lasts 14 to 16 weeks.

  • The transition phase (catagen phase)

Hair growth is slowed down and the hair papilla prepares for hair to fall out. The hair slowly slides up into the skin and falls out. This process takes a few days to a maximum of 3 weeks..

  • The resting phase (telogen phase)

The hairs are not visible but are waiting in the skin for them to be activated. Her papillae are usually grouped together. So up to three hairs can come out of each pore and need to be destroyed. The resting phase lasts from 2 to 6 months. This depends on the area where they occur.

  • Again the Anagen phase. Then the hair growth phases start all over again.

The mirror

Another reason that we notice hair loss (too) late is because of our behavior. We look in a mirror several times a day and then get used to our appearance. You don’t see less hair from day to day.

Just a snack

The same phenomenon also occurs in men with a hairpiece. They do not see when maintenance or renewal of the hair system is needed. Years ago, I had someone on a consultation with a hairpiece that had a green shine. He proudly told me that he had had his hairpiece for over 10 years. When he asked me how long my hairpieces lasted, I replied, lifelong. I did add, “It doesn’t look like much after a while, but it doesn’t go away. So lifelong ”.

The course of hair loss

First, a miniaturization occurs. It is not the case that hair falls out that does not come back. In the first phase, hairs still come back, but they are thinner, a bit curlier and lighter in color. They also do not grow. These are the so-called “vellus” hairs. If such a hair falls out, there will be nothing in return.

Family history

In some, but not all cases, a family history of hair loss may be present. Hereditary hair loss in the family can be a cause of hereditary hair loss on both the male and the female side.

What should you advise

Hair growth remedies for hereditary hair loss do not exist. There are remedies and treatments that can stop or slow hair loss. Hair preservation means. Approved hair preservation agents are Minoxidil and Finasteride, Approved hair preservation treatments are Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) treatments provided by clinics. You can also do something yourself with the so-called Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT). These are devices that you can use at home.

Conclusion

Be extremely careful when approaching hair loss in young people. If you notice her with a client, don’t talk about it openly. With very young boys or girls it is better to discuss it with the parents first. Discuss with older young adults only without others being able to hear. Discretion is in order here.

Hair Loss – Just a Cosmetic Problem?

Hair loss… You just have to learn to live with it

Unfortunately, too many men and women hear this from their GP.  There are millions of people in the world who are experiencing hair loss and it is having a tremendous psychological impact on them, but many doctors consider this a cosmetic problem and not a medical one.

Men shave themselves bald

It’s OK for men to shave their heads. We are talking about men like Yul Brynner or Bruce Willis. But women are generally not considered sexy if they are thinning, and doctors who don’t take these patients seriously only make the problem worse.

The hormones

Hair loss can have many causes such as hormone imbalance, diabetes, thyroid gland, and more. Stress can also be the cause and that can manifest itself in hair loss all over the scalp. It is estimated that more than 90% of all men experience hair loss with age. For women, that percentage is about 50%, but has been increasing rapidly in recent years. Why? The pill? We don’t know yet.

Research in women

Researchers followed women with genetic (hereditary) hair loss for 24 months to see how they fared mentally. They found that if the hair loss had been left untreated during those 24 months, they all suffered from long-term psychological problems.

Subsequently, the subjects underwent a 6-month treatment including laser therapy, nutritional supplements and Minoxidil.

All the participants who had severe to moderate hair loss experienced psychological improvements at the end of the 6-month period. This was reflected in better self-confidence, less depression and fewer anxiety attacks. Social interaction also improved.

Rather wrinkles and weight gain rather than hair loss

45% of a group of 2,000 women from another study said they preferred wrinkles and weight gain to hair loss. Many women believe that their hair loss is caused by an indefinable health problem. This then becomes a vicious cycle with increasing stress which in turn can cause hair loss (Dr. Kinksly of the World Trichology Society).

at-home-solutions

Viviscal Offers an At-Home Solution for Patients with Hair Loss

Due to the current pandemic, many patients are wary of undergoing in-office hair loss treatments. So what advice can you give to patients who want a solution for hair thinning or hair loss without leaving home? Keep reading to find out.

Nourish from the Inside Out

The easiest way that patients can boost hair growth at home is to take Viviscal PRO. Viviscal PRO is a drug-free hair growth supplement that is clinically proven to provide results for both women and men. Viviscal PRO’s unique and potent formula includes key ingredients that hair follicles need to grow healthy hair including biotin, vitamin C, apple extract, and amino acids.

What separates Viviscal PRO from other hair supplements is its exclusive active ingredient, AminoMar® Marine Complex. This proprietary ingredient was first developed in the 1980s by a Scandinavian scientist who noticed that Inuit people tend to have healthy skin and hair thanks to their fish- and protein-rich diet. AminorMar® was created by isolating the particular proteins that are responsible for healthy hair growth. When paired with other hair-supporting ingredients, AminoMar® promotes noticeably improved hair growth in as little as three months.

Viviscal PRO is Backed by Science

Viviscal PRO is proven to work, with ten published clinical trials demonstrating its efficacy. In the latest clinical trials, participants taking Viviscal PRO saw a 57% increase in the number of terminal hairs versus vellus hairs after three months. After six months, users saw an 80% increase in their terminal hair count.

Unlike other hair loss treatments, Viviscal PRO has a safe, drug-free formula that has no known side effects. However, Viviscal PRO is not recommended for anyone under the age of 18, pregnant or nursing women, or anyone with a shellfish or seafood allergy.

Viviscal PRO can also be used to boost the results of other hair loss solutions like laser therapy, PRP, and even hair transplants. Viviscal PRO has zero contraindications with other hair therapies and surgeries. In fact, Viviscal actually enhances the results of hair loss solutions like laser therapy, PRP, and hair transplants.

Manufactured with Safety & Sustainability in Mind

For patients seeking an instant cosmetic solution, we recommend XFusion Hair Building Fibers. Young woman is upset because of hair loss

Hair loss in women, how to deal with it

In this article I specifically address women’s hair loss. Why only women? Because hair loss is more complicated in women than in men. I would also like to discuss the treatments that are possible for women.

Hair today, leaving tomorrow. What to do?

A study has found that men love women with long hair more than women with short hair.  So, we know that long hair is “in” for both men and women themselves. In a society that highly appreciates superficial female characteristics, it is difficult for many women to meet those high expectations.  Perhaps that is the explanation that about 86.5% of women worldwide are looking for professional treatments to prevent hair loss.

A hopeless search?

Although preventing hair loss in women seems like a hopeless struggle, there are possible solutions. The following information highlights four approaches that often prove effective.

  • Accept, learn to deal with it Every year, millions of women experience some form of hair loss that doesn’t contribute to self-confidence and feeling emotionally good. According to a recent study on the psychological effect of hair loss, the effects in women are greater than in men. (or do the men keep themselves big?)Hair loss in women can be caused by many things such as hereditary cause, stress, hormonal imbalance, poor nutrition and some medications. There are many strategies to deal with hair loss such as support groups, online forums and, for example, consultations.

  • Alternative treatments. It is estimated that more than $500 million is spent on hair loss remedies worldwide. Of these, about 3.2% are spent on herbal remedies. Vitamins are also high on the list, but a New York Times report found that there are no special vitamins that promote hair growth. There are currently only 3 non-surgical treatments approved by the FDA.
  • Minoxidil, a lotion to apply locally. (May cause allergy)
  • Finasteride, men only. (Be careful with the side effects)
  • Low Level Laser. (No known side effects)

Camouflage. In the United States, 19% of women wear hats and shawls to hide their hair loss. 75% try to solve their hair loss with hair works. Finally, we can mention products that cover up the hair loss such as color sprays and hair fibers. Due to the color difference between fair skin and dark hair, the hair loss is less visible.

Hair Transplant.  Hair Transplants are also possible for woman but is not as simply as in men. Men, if well educated, no longer want to be bald. They except the restrictions more. Woman expect all the lost hair back and that is not possible.

The latest tips for a Good Hair Day. Edition 5

Simple and easy tricks to achieve what you want with your hair.

Healthy and shiny beautiful hair is perhaps one of the secrets of a successful woman. She feels better and more confident. Sometimes the hair is even more important than an extensive wardrobe or having lots of jewelry.

The secret

Actually, there’s no secret. The most important thing for beautiful hair is the daily care. Remember that damaged hair lasts just as long until it is cut out and that can take a long time, especially if it annoys you. Beautiful and shiny hair we all want. But it doesn’t happen by itself. Here are some tips.

  1. How often do you have to wash the hair?
  • Normal hair up to 5 times a week
  • Fat hair you may wash daily with a mild shampoo for every day
  • Dry hair 2X a week wash
  • Chemically treated hair (Hair dye – permanent – dekroezen) 3 times a week
  • Washing the hair every day can be a problem for many people, especially if you have long hair. But then there’s always dry shampoo. It has improved considerably in recent years and now smells better than it used to.

  1. Which hair color suits you best?
  • Do you have light skin? Avoid a dark hair color. It makes your skin even lighter.
  • If you have dark skin, it is better not to take a lighter hair color.
  • A black hair color certainly does not fit with a light skin tone.
  • A brown hair color suits most women especially when it is ripped off by so-called highlights. Highlights can now also be seen in colours other than light blonde.
  • red hair color is the longest shelf life, but if you are naturally blonde you have to choose 2 to 3 shades darker to obtain a natural color.
  • Do you want blonder hair? If your hair is not dyed, you can usually do so with one treatment. However, if the hair is already dyed in a different color, you may need multiple treatments for a beautiful blonde hair color.

6 tips for a Good Hair Day. Edition 4

Six simple and easy tricks to get your hair to do what you want.

The 6 tips

  1. If you don’t have too fat hair then the hair wasn’t every day. Blow-drying doesn’t change that. The fat (sebum) comes from within. It is best to wash the hair 2 to 3 times a week.
  2. Use a conditioner that you can leave in the hair. They give you more beautiful hair than a conditioner that flushes you out right away.
  3. Do remember not to use too much because a conditioner gives the hair more weight which also affects the model of the hair.
  4. Use hair masks only if the hair is very dry or damaged.
  5. If you use special shampoo, for example, against dandruff, alternate with a gentle shampoo. Shampoos against dandruff contain special ingredients that are not so good for the general condition of the hair.
  6. There are hair colorings in all shapes and sizes. Remember that even if there is “color rinse” on the packaging instead of “hair dye” this product can still contain harmful chemicals. Once you have to put two ingredients together it is hair dye. If the product can be used directly without mixing, it is a color rinse and not harmful to the hair.

5 tips for a Good Hair Day. Edition 3

The 5 tips

  1. Not satisfied with the current model? Go to another hair salon or get another hairdresser. A new hairdresser might have a great new idea for you.
  2. To choose the best model that suits you, it’s best to put on your everyday clothes. That will help your hairdresser to advise a model that is right for you. Tell your hairdresser what kind of work you do. If you have a representative job, you also need a suitable hairstyle
  3. If you want to refresh your hairstyle take a different color or highlights. Apart from blonde highlights you can now also see them in other colors.
  4. refresh the hair color you can also use an “avocado mask”. Mix a ripe avocado with some olive oil. Apply it to towel-dried hair. Leave it under aluminum foil and/or a towel for 30 minutes. Then rinse.
  5. Another tip for shiny hair. Rinse the hair after washing with:
  • For blond hair Camile tea
  • For red hair Same
  • For brunettes Beer
  • For dark hair Cola

hair-transplant-crown

Hair transplant on the crown. Thankless work

Why is a hair transplant on the crown thankless work?

If you want a hair transplant on the crown (also called the black hole) the attending physician should point out that  the results of being able to treat a crown are limited.

The problem

The problem is the angle at which or in which you look at a crown. If you look in the front mirror, you look at the hair. If you look at your crown with two mirrors, you look into the crown and that makes a big difference. You can compare it to a forest in winter. If you look at a forest, you will see a dark plane of all the tree trunks. You don’t see the soil (your scalp) underneath. However, if you fly a helicopter above that forest, you can clearly see the ground (your scalp).

Double the need for hair

To cover the crown a little reasonably, it takes at least twice as much donor hair as at the front or the middle of your head. That may pose a problem for the donor hair that you need now or perhaps in the future. As long as they can’t clone hair follicles in practice, a reserve of donor hair is always recommended. Even if you use prevention drugs, like Minoxidil or Finasteride, reserve donor hair is still recommended. You don’t know what the future holds. Prevention drugs don’t work on everybody. But if they do, what if you can’t use your prevention drug, for any medical reasons?

7 tips for a Good Hair Day. Edition 2

Healthy hair

Healthy and shiny beautiful hair is perhaps one of the secrets of a successful woman. She feels better and more confident. Sometimes the hair is even more important as an extensive wardrobe or having lots of jewelry.

The secret

Actually, there’s no secret. The most important thing for beautiful hair is the daily care. Remember that damaged hair lasts just as long until it is cut out and that can take a long time, especially if it annoys you.

The 7 tips

  1. Choose a model that best suits your hair color and hair structure
  2. Avoid too much hair styling and chemical treatments. A simple rule is: The less you do with your hair, the better and healthy it will look shiny.
  3. Do not use too much shampoo. Wash the scalp and let the water run through the hair when rinsing out. Wash twice if necessary.
  4. Only wash your hair when it’s fat. If you have a dry scalp then it was less. Remember, sebum/fat also provides nourishment of the skin.
  5. Use conditioner only on the ends of the hair and not on the scalp.
  6. Find the right shampoo and conditioner for your hair. Experiment with various species and if you have found the right one, stick to it.
  7. Don’t let the sun dry your hair in the summer. Wear a headgear. Looks nice, too.

8 tips for a Good Hair Day. Edition 1

Instead of hair problems this time an episode from the series Good Hair Day.  Healthy and shiny beautiful hair is perhaps one of the secrets of a successful woman. She feels better and more confident. Sometimes the hair is even more important than an extensive wardrobe or having lots of jewelry.

The secret?

Actually, there’s no secret. The most important thing for beautiful hair is the daily care. Remember that damaged hair lasts just as long until it is cut out.

The eight tips

  1. The tap water. In some cities, the water is harsh because many chemicals are needed to purify the water. Do you have hard water? A water purifier can help with this.
  2. On average, about 1 to 2 cm every 6 weeks. Cut from the hair. That prevents split ends.
  3. To wash the hair brush the hair gently. Try to make the hair as smooth as possible during washing, so that it does not get confused. So either forward or back.
  4. Always use a conditioner after washing to restore the acidity of the hair.
  5. Do not use cheap plastic brushes. Use brushes of natural hair.
  6. When possible, let the hair dry naturally. If you have to use a hairdryer, do not put it at the highest setting. The lower the better.
  7. Take a hair mask every 14 days. Cover the hair with aluminum foil and then a towel for the heat, causing it to penetrate the hair deeper. If necessary, leave it overnight.
  8. Use as little as possible, or no chemical treatments at all such as coloring, permanent-wave or hair dye.

hair-loss-in-woman

Hair loss in woman and how to cope

Step 1: History

The most important step in the approach to hair loss should always be a doctor’s understanding of an accurate history of the client. That history consists of the family history of hair loss, other medical problems of the past and the drug use of past and present

Without a family history of hair loss in women, it is less likely that a woman suffers from the typical female model hair loss. There are several medications that are known to have an effect on hair loss in men and women. Hair loss as a side effect of a drug can be one of the causes of hair loss.

Step 2: Research (macro and microscopic evaluation)

A doctor should take a good look at the patient’s scalp.  A different pattern must be sought. In a woman with a receding front line or significant thinner hair at the front but with normal hair on the top and back of the head, the cause may be the same as baldness in men, such as increased testosterone and DHT levels.

Microscopic examination of the scalp and of the hair (miniaturization study) should always be an important component of any hair loss evaluation. It is known that the diameter of the hair can become thinner before falling out. This cannot be explained by the natural growth phases that the hair is going through. The next stage of the study of hair loss in women is the mapping of head hair miniaturization with a microscope. Miniaturization studies should also be used to predict the future pattern of hair loss.

Step 3: Laboratory work.

Many women need a laboratory to exclude other medical conditions that can cause hair loss. Doing laboratory work is most needed in women with an a-typical hair loss without a family history of hair loss.

Laboratory work for hair loss in women may involve a number of simple tests, such as a CBC test and possibly more specific tests such as iron deficiency, hormonal control, evaluations for total and free testosterone, DHEA sulfate, prolactin, T3, T4, TSH and prolactin. More tests for rheumatological problems may also be needed.

Step 4: correct diagnosis.

How to deal with hair loss has directly to do with the correct diagnosis of the cause of hair loss. If we have made a correct diagnosis, the treatment of that medical condition can often also solve the hair loss problem. In cases where we can’t find any other medical cause for hair loss in women, that hair loss is best treated as a female pattern hair loss, the typical pattern for hereditary hair loss.

Step 5: specific treatment.

There are a few treatments that are suitable for women with a “female pattern hairloss”.

Minoxidil 2%. Can be purchased in pharmacies without a prescription. There is also Minoxidil 5% but a prescription is needed for that. Minoxidil 5% can cause increased hair growth in the face as a side effect in women. Minoxidil has been approved by the health authorities. (https://www.haarproblemen.nl/?s=Minoxidil)

Low Level laser (LLL) is under the brand name “HairMax Lasercomb” a treatment that has been recognized by the FDA in the USA. (https://www.haarproblemen.nl/?s=LLL)

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Isolating and re-injecting the growth factors via blood collection

Hair transplant. For women also possible. However, the pattern of expectation in women needs to be taken into account. That’s usually higher than men. Bald men can be very content with a little more hair. In women, there is usually still thin hair that can only be thickened with a hair transplant. However, the hair can never become as thick as it used to be.
